[On the July 4th deadline]: “That is our goal. But yes, we are working towards getting to that spot on it, and we’re going to keep working until we get it done…we need to give as much time as we can for the IRS to be able to promulgate all the rules….July the 4th is still our target. That’s still what we’re working towards. And I think we’re going to get there.”

[On Preventing a Tax Hike]: “Tax expiration is December the 31st of this year for all the current tax rates, every single tax bracket. So if we don’t do something this year we will have a $400 billion tax increase on every American who pays taxes starting on January the first of next year. So it’s very important that we actually take action on this, so we don’t have that giant tax increase coming up next year.”

[On Spending and Deficit Reduction]: “We also want to be able to work out how we are spending. We have two trillion dollars in overspending, so we are looking for waste, fraud, and abuse. We are looking for areas we can slow down our spending.”

[On Preventing a Tax Hike]: “Our main focus is to not allow the largest tax increase in American history to happen in January. Right now, our taxes expire and they jump up dramatically January the first; not based on good economic policy but just the calendar.”

[On Republicans Preserving Medicaid]: “It’s been interesting – CBO, this score keeper that’s in Washington D.C., has said that 10 million people will lose Medicaid. What they don’t tell is the rest of the story. We are actually putting a work authorization and a work requirement on Medicaid just like we have on the other social safety nets. So those folks aren’t losing healthcare. You read the rest of the story, [and] they are actually transitioning from Medicaid to employer provided healthcare. We think that’s a better option for people to be able to actually be employed.”
