WASHINGTON, DC — Senator James Lankford (R-OK) joined Newsmax this morning to discuss his recent Congressional Delegation (CODEL) trip to the Middle East, his ongoing efforts to stop looming tax hikes, and his push to make President Trump’s tax cuts permanent.

On the One Big Beautiful Bill:

“We’re going to take their framework, their details, their policy areas, and then do some minor tweaks. There were 215 Republicans in the House that all put their fingerprints on it. Now, this is the opportunity for 50-plus senators to do the same.”

“It is, that puts about ten days that we’ve got to be able to get our work done behind the scenes, and all the committees bring to the floor of the Senate, and we’ll have a vote. Throw it over the wall, give it to the House and let them go through it.”

On Preventing Tax Hikes:

“That’s what Democrats are fighting for. They want massive tax increases on every American. We are trying to be able to prevent that.”

On His Recent CODEL to the Middle East:

“Over Memorial Day…I was in Baghdad, Iraq. I was in Erbil, Iraq. I was in Beirut, Lebanon. I was in Amman, Jordan, and I was in Jerusalem, Israel, meeting with heads of state in all those places talking through where we are in the region.”

“There’s a real opportunity here. Hezbollah’s army is essentially demolished in southern Lebanon. So that gives an opportunity for Lebanon and Israel to actually talk peace in a way they haven’t done in decades and decades.” 

“What I heard from the troops on the ground and from the diplomats in each of those embassies is they want America to lead again.”
