Lankford, Wicker, Colleagues Move for Permanent Ban on Taxpayer Funding for Abortions

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) joined Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) along with 45 other Senators, to introduce the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act, which would establish a permanent prohibition on federal funding for abortion, replacing the current annual funding restrictions with a single, government-wide standard. After more than 40 years of inconsistent and haphazard policies that have regulated federal funding for abortion, this legislation would make permanent the prohibitions on funding for elective abortion, including the Hyde Amendment, which currently rely on annual approval, and would eliminate Obamacare’s taxpayer subsidies for elective abortion coverage through refundable tax credits.

“Regardless of Americans’ beliefs on the issue of life, one thing remains clear: the federal government does not need to fund abortions,” said Lankford. “Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, instead of supporting moms and unborn babies, President Biden and his Administration have found legally dubious ways to use American taxpayer funds to facilitate abortion. Americans who strongly disagree with abortions should never be forced to pay for them with their federal tax dollars. I’m proud to once again join my colleagues in introducing legislation to ensure the government is not funding the taking of unborn human life.”

“Most Americans do not want their hard-earned tax dollars being used for abortion-on-demand, but our current patchwork of regulations has brought years of uncertainty,” Wicker said. “The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act would simplify federal rules, ensuring that American tax dollars are never used for the destruction of innocent, unborn life.”

Lankford remains the leading pro-life voice in the Senate to stand up against the Biden Administration’s obsession with abortion, especially after the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to return decisions about abortions to the people’s elected representatives.

This week, Lankford took to the Senate floor to share his full and unwavering support for life in our nation and to ask his fellow Senators a simple question: when does life begin? As he does every year around the annual March for Life in Washington, DC, Senator Lankford once again shared his belief that every life has value and worth and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

Lankford has called out the Biden Administration for promoting abortions among unaccompanied minors, and he has called out the Department of Veterans Affairs for trying to go around federal and state laws and provide abortions.

A recent episode of Lankford’s podcastThe Breakdown with James Lankford, was a conversation about the pro-abortion lobby spreading false rumors about miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and what that means for the future of women’s health.
