Senator Lankford Awarded Conservative Excellence Award for Voting Record

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) was awarded the “2018 Award for Conservative Excellence” by the American Conservative Union (ACU) for his voting record in 2018. Lankford has obtained an ACU rating of 91 percent, the eighth-highest in the Senate.

“I am grateful for ACU’s continued work to highlight conservative ideas across the nation,” said Lankford. “The people of Oklahoma sent me to Washington to work on the federal issues affecting their families and their businesses, and advance policies that put our country on a positive track to prosperity and maintain our values as a nation. I will continue to support policies that limit federal government intrusion, promote economic freedom, and remove wasteful spending.”

“In an era fraught with partisan gamesmanship, Sen. Lankford speaks the truth and works reliably toward conservative policy solutions that benefit all Americans,” said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp. “His votes in the 2018 session supporting efforts to protect property rights and reduce the national debt and deficit reflect his strong conservative values, and we are proud to present our Award for Conservative Excellence to Sen. Lankford.”

Founded in 1964, the American Conservative Union (ACU) is the nation’s oldest and largest conservative organization. ACU hosts the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), of which Senator Lankford spoke at in February. CPAC is the largest conference in America for conservative grassroots activism. The conference has more than 10,000 activists from all over the nation.

Lankford has championed a number of conservative ideas during his time in the Senate. In December of 2018, Lankford supported the passage of the First Step Act, which allows faith-based organizations to provide rehabilitation programs in federal prisons. Lankford also served on the Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform, where he worked to develop reforms to our federal budget and spending processes to reduce our debt and deficit. Lankford also worked tirelessly to ensure the release of Pastor Andrew Brunson. Pastor Brunson was detained by Turkish officials on unjust charges of espionage.

In 2018, Lankford was named “Taxpayers’ Friend” by the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) and “Hero of Main Street” by the National Retail Federation (NRF).
