Lankford in Disbelief after Biden Defends Afghan Withdrawal While Americans Scramble to Get Out of Chaos

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today shared his disbelief after President Biden addressed the nation today in defense of his Administration’s handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan:

“American citizens are scrambling to get out of Afghanistan as the vacuum left behind by our hasty withdrawal is dangerously filling with the Taliban and their supporters. But President Biden doesn’t seem to have access to the internet or tv because today while he defended the mess he created, Oklahomans are watching the chaos on the ground at places like the Kabul airport where Americans are struggling to get out. We also see the heroism of our service members doing what they can to bring our people home even while their Commander-in-Chief says he isn’t seeing that people are struggling to get out of Afghanistan. I’m happy to put President Biden in touch with hundreds of people who can offer the exact opposite impression he gave today. We must immediately use any means necessary to get all the Americans who want to leave out of Afghanistan to safety and not withdraw until this mission is complete.”

In today’s speech, when addressing whether Americans are able to leave Afghanistan, President Biden said, “We have no indication that they haven’t been able to get to the airport. We have made an agreement with the Taliban thus far, they have allowed them to go through, it is in their interest to go through. We know of no circumstance where American citizens carrying American passports are trying to through get to the airport, but we will do whatever needs to be done to see to it that they get through to the airport.”
